🧠 A Strange Paradox in Human Behaviour!
If a child is asked to wake up early in the morning to study, the idea may feel extremely inconvenient.
“The alarm did not ring.”
“I am still sleepy.”
“My body feels tired.”
“I will definitely start studying tomorrow.”
Now suppose a film starring the same child’s favourite hero is being released. To get a ticket, he must stand in a long queue from 3:30 a.m.
He carefully sets the alarm the night before. Sometimes, the excitement of watching the film may even keep him awake. He reaches the theatre on time, stands in the queue for hours and finally secures the ticket.
The child is the same.
The body is the same.
The hour is even earlier.
So, what changed?
Not his physical capacity. What changed was the priority his mind gave to the task!
Entertainment offers an immediate and emotionally vivid reward. The child can already imagine the excitement at the theatre, his favourite hero, the songs and the celebration with friends.
For a while, that excitement pushes sleep, hunger, fatigue and other physical discomforts into the background.
The rewards of education, employment, professional growth and building a meaningful life, however, are not immediately visible. They may take months or years to appear.
That is why a mind that responds so energetically to entertainment may slow down, resist and refuse to cooperate when it is asked to work for its own future.
This reveals an important truth:
The mind is not always tired. Sometimes, it simply gives priority to what it likes.
When we say, “I cannot wake up early,” the real meaning may sometimes be:
“My mind has not yet accepted that this task deserves enough priority.”
We need not view this only as a weakness. It is also evidence that the ability already exists within us.
If a child can wake up at 3:30 a.m. for a cinema ticket, he certainly has the capacity to wake up early to study.
What he lacks is not energy. A strong connection has not yet formed between the effort required today and the goal he wants to achieve tomorrow.
Real growth begins when we stop waiting to feel enthusiastic before doing every important task.
Entertainment may depend on our mood.
Our future should not.
Education, career and success all demand discipline. Discipline is the ability to do what is necessary even when the mind does not feel excited.
A father need not tell his children that they should never watch films or enjoy entertainment. Instead, he can ask them to learn a life lesson from their own enthusiasm:
“If you can wake up before sunrise for your favourite hero’s film, can you not wake up a little earlier to become the hero of your own life?”
A cinema ticket may offer three hours of entertainment. But one disciplined hour every morning can change the direction of an entire life.
An alarm awakens the body.
Excitement awakens the mind.
But only a meaningful purpose awakens life.
What wakes you every morning—an alarm, excitement or your purpose in life?
