English Story — In Rama’s Voice

I am Rama.

Vishwamitra’s sacrifice at Siddhashrama was complete. The sages rejoiced. After the morning rites, Lakshmana and I approached our teacher and stood ready for his next instruction.

The sages told us that King Janaka was conducting a great sacrifice at Mithila and that they would travel there with Vishwamitra. They spoke of a wondrous bow of Shiva, long worshipped in Janaka’s house—so formidable that gods, Gandharvas, Asuras and mighty beings had not been able to string it.

I heard this not as a boastful challenge, but as an invitation to witness something unknown. Vishwamitra bade farewell to the deities of Siddhashrama. The hermitage animals tried to follow, but he gently turned them back. We travelled north and halted by the river Sona at sunset.

My duty at Siddhashrama had ended, but the student’s journey had not. Beyond one completed test waited another landscape, another story and another responsibility.

Tradition note

This follows Valmiki Ramayana, Bala Kanda, Sarga 31. Rama has not yet reached Mithila or handled the bow in this episode; later events are deliberately not brought forward.

🌱 Human Development Perspective

Success can tempt us to stop learning or demand recognition. The journey to Mithila treats achievement as the doorway to the next apprenticeship. Completing a project, passing an examination or launching a product should increase readiness to learn, not reduce it.

🌱 Life Lesson

Completing a duty proves competence; becoming ready for the next field of learning proves growth.
