గంగాతీరంలోని ఒక ఆశ్రమంలో యాజ్ఞవల్క్యుడు అనే ముని నివసించేవాడు. ఒక రోజు గద్ద ముక్కు నుంచి జారిన చిన్న ఆడ ఎలుక ఆయన చేతిలో పడింది. దానికి హాని కలగకుండా రక్షించి, తన తపోశక్తితో చిన్న అమ్మాయిగా మార్చి, సంతానం లేని తన భార్యకు కుమార్తెగా ఇచ్చాడు.

ఆ అమ్మాయి ప్రేమతో పెరిగింది. వివాహ వయస్సుకు చేరినప్పుడు, “నా కుమార్తెకు అత్యంత శక్తివంతుడే తగిన వరుడు” అని ముని భావించాడు.

బలవంతుడి కోసం అన్వేషణ

మొదట సూర్యుణ్ని పిలిచాడు. అమ్మాయి, “ఆయన ఎంతో ప్రకాశవంతుడు; కానీ వేడి ఎక్కువ” అంది. సూర్యుడు తనకంటే మేఘం బలమైనదని చెప్పాడు—మేఘం తనను కప్పేస్తుంది కాబట్టి.

మేఘాన్ని అడిగితే అమ్మాయి అతడు చీకటిగా, నిరంతరం కదులుతూ ఉంటాడని చెప్పింది. మేఘం తనను గాలి నడిపిస్తుందని తెలిపింది. గాలి వచ్చింది; అమ్మాయి అతడు స్థిరంగా ఉండడని చెప్పింది. గాలి తనను పర్వతం ఆపగలదని అన్నది.

పర్వతం బలంగా, స్థిరంగా కనిపించింది. కానీ అమ్మాయి అతడు కఠినంగా ఉన్నాడని చెప్పింది. “నీ కంటే బలమైనవాడు ఎవరైనా ఉన్నారా?” అని ముని అడిగితే, పర్వతం “ఎలుకలు నాలో రంధ్రాలు చేస్తాయి” అన్నాడు.

నేటి జీవితానికి అన్వయం

Careerలో అత్యధిక salary ఉన్న ఉద్యోగమే అందరికీ సరైనది కాదు. Partnershipలో అత్యంత powerful వ్యక్తి అనుకూల భాగస్వామి కావాల్సిన అవసరం లేదు. Educationలో పేరున్న courseకంటే మన ఆసక్తి, సామర్థ్యం, జీవన లక్ష్యాలకు సరిపోయే course మంచిది కావచ్చు.

ఈ కథను “వ్యక్తి మారలేడు” అనే కఠిన నిర్ణయంగా చదవకూడదు. మనుషులు నేర్చుకుంటారు, మారతారు. కథలోని ఉపయోగకరమైన ప్రశ్న: బాహ్య ప్రతిష్ఠ కోసం చేస్తున్న ఎంపిక మన అంతర్గత అవసరాలకు సరిపోతుందా?

🌱 జీవిత పాఠం

Mouse-Maid Made Mouse

A sage rescues a female mouse, transforms her into a girl and raises her as his daughter. Seeking the strongest possible husband, he approaches the sun, cloud, wind and mountain. Each points to something that can overcome it. When the mountain says mice can pierce it, the girl recognises the mouse as her own kind and asks to be transformed back.

Modern relevance

The highest-paying job, most prestigious course or most powerful partner is not automatically the best fit. Suitability depends on values, temperament, ability and purpose. The story should not be read as denying human growth; its useful question is whether an externally impressive choice matches the person who must live with it.

🌱 Life Lesson

Power is not the same as fit. Self-knowledge converts choice from status-seeking into a sustainable decision. Good mentors do not impose prestige; they help people recognise what genuinely suits them.
