  3. Reversible pilot

English version

Mantharaka, a weaver, spared a spirit’s tree and was offered a boon. His friend advised him to seek a kingdom. His wife suggested an extra head and another pair of arms so that he could weave two pieces of cloth at once. The second idea sounded practical and productive.

He asked for the altered body without considering how others would react. When he returned, villagers mistook him for a monster and attacked him. The boon designed to double output destroyed the person meant to enjoy it.

Modern relevance

Organisations repeat this mistake when they double capacity without testing demand, buy technology without redesigning processes, or maximise one metric while ignoring reputation, health and trust. Advice is an input—not a substitute for judgment.

🌱 Life Lesson

Examine second-order consequences before accepting an apparently efficient solution. Test reversible options first, ask what failure would look like, and remember that responsibility for the final decision remains yours.
