కథ — భీష్మునిగా నేను చెబుతున్నాను
కాశీ నుంచి అంబ, అంబిక, అంబాలికలను హస్తినాపురానికి తీసుకొచ్చిన తరువాత, విచిత్రవీర్యునితో వారి వివాహానికి ఏర్పాట్లు ప్రారంభించాను. నా దృష్టిలో కురు వంశ బాధ్యతను నెరవేర్చాను. సభలోని రాజులను ఓడించడం కష్టమైంది; కానీ నా నిర్ణయం సరైనదేనని అప్పటివరకు నమ్మాను.
ఆ సమయంలో పెద్ద రాజకుమార్తె అంబ నా ముందుకు వచ్చింది. ఆమె మాటల్లో కోపం కంటే స్పష్టత ఎక్కువగా కనిపించింది. “గంగాపుత్రా, నా హృదయం ముందే శాల్వ రాజును ఎంచుకుంది. అతడూ నన్ను కోరుకున్నాడు. స్వయంవరంలో నేను అతనినే వరించాలనుకున్నాను. ఈ విషయం మీకు తెలియకుండా మీరు నన్ను తీసుకొచ్చారు. ధర్మాన్ని పరిశీలించి నాకు తగిన నిర్ణయం చేయండి,” అని చెప్పింది.
ఆ మాట విన్నప్పుడు నా శౌర్యం ఆ సమస్యను పరిష్కరించలేదని గ్రహించాను. నేను ఒక్కడిగా వెంటనే తీర్పు చెప్పలేదు. వేదవేత్తలైన బ్రాహ్మణులను, సభలోని పెద్దలను సంప్రదించాను. అంబ చెప్పిన prior choiceను గౌరవించడం ధర్మసమ్మతమని నిర్ణయించాం.
అంబకు తన ఇష్టప్రకారం వెళ్లడానికి అనుమతి ఇచ్చాను. ఆమెకు రక్షణగా వృద్ధ బ్రాహ్మణులను, సహాయకులను పంపి, శాల్వుని రాజ్యానికి గౌరవంగా ప్రయాణం ఏర్పాటుచేశాను. అంబిక, అంబాలికల వివాహం విచిత్రవీర్యునితో జరగాల్సి ఉంది; అంబకు వేరొక మార్గం తెరుచుకుంది.
ఆమె రథం బయలుదేరినప్పుడు, ఒక ఆలస్యమైన నిజం నిర్ణయాన్ని ఎంతగా మార్చగలదో చూశాను. అయితే శాల్వుని రాజ్యంలో ఆమెకు ఎదురయ్యే సమాధానం నాకు తెలియదు. ఈ రోజు కథ అక్కడితో ఆగుతుంది.

Day 11లో consultation లేకుండా చేసిన వేగవంతమైన action hidden conflictను తెచ్చింది. Day 12లో correction ప్రారంభమైంది. నిజం ఆలస్యంగా తెలిసినా, భీష్ముడు తన ప్రతిష్ఠను రక్షించుకోవడానికి అంబను మౌనంగా చేయలేదు. వినాడు, eldersను సంప్రదించాడు, తన నిర్ణయాన్ని మార్చాడు.
ఇది perfect resolution కాదు. మొదటే అంబను అడిగివుంటే సంక్షోభం నివారించవచ్చు. అయినా mistake తర్వాత response కూడా characterను చూపుతుంది. “నేను ఒకసారి నిర్ణయించాను” అనే ego కంటే కొత్త informationకు స్పందించడం maturity.
నేటి ఉదాహరణలు
- Project launch తర్వాత affected user consent missing అని తెలిసినప్పుడు rolloutను pause చేసి redesign చేయడం.
- Family decisionలో సభ్యుడి prior commitment బయటపడితే “ఇప్పటికే మాట ఇచ్చాం” అనకుండా తిరిగి చర్చించడం.
- Managerకు employee constraints ఆలస్యంగా తెలిసినప్పుడు performance judgmentను సవరించడం.
- Public policyలో new evidence వచ్చినప్పుడు face-saving కోసం తప్పును కొనసాగించకుండా course correction చేయడం.
🌱 జీవిత పాఠం
నిజమైన బలం నిర్ణయాన్ని అమలు చేయడంలో మాత్రమే కాదు; కొత్త నిజం వచ్చినప్పుడు నిర్ణయాన్ని మార్చడంలోనూ ఉంటుంది. వినడం ఆలస్యమైనా, correctionను ఇంకా ఆలస్యం చేయకూడదు.
ప్రతిబింబ ప్రశ్న: మీరు తీసుకున్న ఏ నిర్ణయం కొత్త information వచ్చినప్పటికీ “నా మాటే చివరి” అనే కారణంతో మారకుండా ఉంది?

The story — told in Bhishma's first person
After bringing Amba, Ambika and Ambalika from Kashi to Hastinapura, I began preparations for their marriage to Vichitravirya. I believed I had secured the Kuru succession.
Then Amba approached me. Calmly and clearly, she said that her heart had already chosen King Salva, that he desired her too, and that she had intended to choose him at the swayamvara. I had taken her without knowing this. She asked me to examine dharma and decide accordingly.
My prowess could not answer what her words revealed. I consulted Brahmanas learned in the Vedas and the elders of the court. We concluded that her prior choice should be respected. I permitted Amba to go where she wished and arranged an honourable journey to Salva's kingdom with elderly Brahmanas and attendants.
As her chariot departed, I saw how one late fact could change an entire decision. I did not yet know how Salva would answer her. Today's episode ends here.
Traditional note: This retelling follows Adi Parva Section 102/CII and stops when Amba is sent to Salva. His response belongs to the next chronological episode.
🌱 Human Development Perspective
Day 11 showed action without consultation. Day 12 begins the correction. Bhishma does not silence Amba to protect his prestige. He listens, seeks counsel and changes course. The outcome is not perfect—asking first could have prevented the crisis—but character is also revealed by the response after a mistake.
Present-day examples
- Pausing a product rollout when missing user consent becomes clear.
- Reopening a family decision when a prior commitment is revealed.
- Revising a performance judgment after learning an employee's constraints.
- Changing public policy when new evidence contradicts the original premise.
🌱 Life Lesson
Strength is not only the power to execute a decision. It is also the courage to revise it when new truth arrives. Listening may be late; correction should not be delayed further.
