Panchatantra for Human Growth — Day 27
The Brahmin and the Three Rogues: When repetition imitates truth
A Brahmin carrying a goat was targeted by three hungry rogues. Instead of using force, they approached him separately. Each asked why a holy man was carrying a dog. The first claim angered him, the second unsettled him, and the third made him distrust his own perception. Fearing an illusion, he abandoned the goat; the rogues took it.
What was stolen first?
The goat was not their first target—his confidence was. The same lie was staged as three apparently independent confirmations. Repetition replaced evidence, and social proof defeated direct observation.
Modern examples
Copied social-media claims can look like multiple sources. Coordinated reviews can imitate genuine consensus. Workplace rumours can appear independently confirmed even when they trace back to one person. Repeated investment tips can create confidence without data.
🌱 Life Lesson
Repetition is not verification. Ask whether sources are truly independent, find the primary evidence, compare the claim with observable facts, and notice who benefits if you believe it. Growth requires neither blind suspicion nor blind trust; it requires disciplined verification.
Reflect: was the last “widely confirmed” claim you believed supported by several independent sources—or by one statement repeated in several places?
